During a journey through Indonesia in 1988 Moon Zijp was confronted with the fact that when she had to pee she always ended up in a difficult situation. At the Academy of Arts in Amsterdam she developed her first P-Mate. This enabled her to pee while standing upright, and this was demonstrated in performances which caused mainly a lot of gaiety and attention.

Good ideas linger, and the interest in practical use grew. In 1999 a break-through followed when, in the television talkshow of Paul de Leeuw (a Dutch talkshow-host), she was peeing live and upright before the eyes of the entire nation.

Overwhelmed by publicity and interest she decided to open up her idea to all women in The Netherlands. From that moment on the P-mate launched a revolution of women's ideas of peeing. Not only in The Netherlands, but also internationally the P-mate is unstoppable. Below you will find the main events which show the development of an artistic idea to a full-grown product:

Highlights
  1. The first women�s urinal is put into use at Pinkpop 2000 in the Netherlands. Rock-Werchter (BE) and Lowlands (NL) are following soon and within a few years P-mate can be used in women�s urinals at several events in the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, Finland and England.
  2. The P-mate is joined to the collection of the Boijmans van Beuningen museum, a famous museum of art in the Netherlands.
  3. Moon Zijp is the winner of the National Millennium Award 2000: P-mate is an innovative and revolutionary product and Moon Zijp undertakes an impressive effort to improve toilet-hygiene for ladies.


  1. In 2001 the dutch word for P-mate (�Plastuit�) is included in a book in which new words are being published: Ewoud Sanders book "De taal van het jaar"
  2. First there was WC 1, the women�s urinal. After this came WC2, with which P-Company introduced duo-peeing. And because women needed a larger amount of locations to pee, Moon Zijp got the idea for WC 3; the mobile ladies urinal. In fact simple adjustments to the so called �kros�, in the Netherlands a well known mobile men�s urinal. She contacted LOC 7000, the producers of the regular men's kros to tell them her idea and in co-operation LOC 7000 and P-Company experimented and developed WC3.
  3. In 2004 P-Company will be at Glastonbury Festival in England where women in need can try the P-mate in several ladies urinals. The female visitors will also get the scoop to test the latest version of WC3: a flashy pink ladies cros.
